VARSBAYD was established in 1999 by Ray van der Bas (23). He started as a freelance photographer, but was introduced to the art of film making fairly quickly. For over 10 years he was part of Virogo Film Productions together with director Raymond van Rijn. In that time “In het Vuur van de Storm” became their greatest achievement as a television series of 10 episodes.
From 2010 Ray worked on numerous television series, short and feature films as set and still photographer, mainly in The Netherlands. Building up his name in the industry.
In 2014 he was given the chance to work in the lighting department for a television series. From then on he had to opportunity and privilege to learn from well established gaffers in the field. Slowly building up his own reputation as gaffer on different sets.
Teaming up with director Gideon van Eeden led to new challenges from 2017 by being behind the camera again, but now as director of photography. This resulted in 4 short films, including the one with directors Wouter Springer and Wim Bax.
